張駿豪 Teriver Cheung

張駿豪畢業於北德薩斯州大學爵士樂演奏系,其後多年在紐約發展音樂事業,是香港少數立足於國際的的爵士結他手及作曲家。

 

他曾與無數傳奇大師音樂家合作,包括格林美獎得主及提名Eddie Gomez、Eric Marienthal、Keita Ogawa等,亦帶領樂隊於各地的大型音樂節演出。他在2015年回流香港,策劃多媒體音樂會《禾.日.水.巷》,與古典作曲家林丰共同創作,作為「世界文化藝術節2015-瑰藝十載」委約作品;並在2017年作世界巡演,包括倫敦「香港音樂系列」、「香港週2017@台北」,並為香港特別行政區成立二十周年文化活動巡迴內地六大城市。

 

2017年,張氏與新加坡電風琴手卓可榮共同創作爵士室樂新計劃《載行》。年底成立瞬.樂團,先後獲得三期藝能發展資助計劃的資助,積極開拓爵士與古典樂手的合作空間,以及推動年輕一代的教育推廣。在2019年,為慶祝文化中心成立三十周年在音樂廳策劃《爵士盛會-傳奇與延續》並參與演出。其他張氏策劃並參演的大型音樂會包括2021年「爵士.樂」系列:頃刻.當下 — 爵士樂心靈之旅、2022年《粵言.爵語》音樂會,以及同年於香港五個表演場地巡演的「25.35演藝嘉年華」《遊手好閒》。

 

獨特和豐富的音樂背景令張氏成為近年香港其中一位最為活躍的作曲、演奏家和策劃人。曾與香港中樂團,香港小交響樂和不同音樂團體作客席演奏,甚至在主流音樂也見其蹤跡。張氏曾擔任香港大學、香港中文大學以及香港教育大學的客席講師,並不定期在大專和中學推動爵士樂教育工作,以及參與大師班與導賞性質演出。

 

2020年,張氏獲民政事務局局長嘉許計劃嘉許,以表揚他多年在推廣藝術文化方面的貢獻。同年度,他參與的獨立樂隊R.O.O.T奪得叱吒樂壇流行榜頒獎典禮-叱吒樂壇生力軍銀獎。張氏與本地音樂人蘇道哲共同創作的專輯《日出》亦獲提名第三十四屆金曲獎「演奏類最佳專輯獎」。

After graduating from the University of North Texas with a major in jazz performance, Teriver Cheung spent years of his music career in New York, which makes Cheung one of the very few Hong Kong-born international jazz guitarists and composers. 

 

Cheung has frequently collaborated with musicians including Grammy Award winners and nominees Eddie Gómez, Eric Marienthal and Keita Ogawa. As the leader of his ensemble, he toured with his group and appeared at major music festivals. In 2015, Cheung curated the multimedia concert Hong Kong Episodes and co-wrote an original work in collaboration with the classical music composer Fung Lam. As a project commissioned by the World Cultures Festival 2015, Hong Kong Episodes received critical acclaim. In 2017, the Hong Kong Episodes was invited to do a world tour and was presented at “The Hong Kong Music Series” in London and “Hong Kong Week 2017 @ Taipei”. As a cultural touring programme to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, Hong Kong Episodes was also performed in six cities in the Mainland. 

 

In 2017 Cheung established Ensemble Transience, and has organised three phases of programmes supported by the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme. The aim of the programmes is to explore more creative collaborations and musical possibilities between jazz and classical musicians, and to promote musical education to the younger generation. In 2019, he curated and performed for Jazz Gala-The Legend and Beyond at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, as part of the celebration activities for the centre’s 30th Anniversary. Other major concerts that Cheung curated and took part in include “Jazz Up” Series: The Present – Jazz Festival of an Inward Journey in 2021, Concert – A Dialogue Between Jazz and Guangdong Music in 2022, and Endor under the “25 · 35 Performing Arts Carnival”, which was held at five performance venues in 2022. 

 

With his unique sound and rich musical background, Cheung has become one of the most active composers, performers and curators in Hong Kong. As a collaborating jazz artist, he performed with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, and participated in various productions in the mainstream music industry. As an educator, he is the guest tutor and lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Education University of Hong Kong. Cheung also frequently gave music workshops and guided concerts at different universities and secondary schools, introducing Jazz and improvisation to the young audience.

 

In 2020, Cheung received The Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation for his long term dedication towards promotion of art and culture. In the same year, his independent band R.O.O.T. won the 2nd place of the Best New Artist at the 903 Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation. Sunrise, an album co-composed by Cheung and the local musician Sotoc, was nominated for the 34th Golden Melody Awards “Best Instrumental Album”.
